- Hi Greg,
-
- Cakewalk is foreign to me really, but I guess I'll have my $0.02 worth (as
- they say!).

- No, I don't believe updates of that kind were implemented in the later ROM
- versions.

- However, it may be that when you play in BSEQ mode on the i3, and record via
- cakewalk, the initial track controller values may not be transmitted. If
- you have the upgrade, you can save a BSQ as a SMF on the i3, and then load
- this into SONG mode. During this process, all the neccessary controllers
- are embedded onto the 1st measure of each track, including CO91 & C093
- (Effect Send levels C & D respectively). Presumably if you were then to
- play this into cakewalk, these controllers would be recorded, and hence
- playback through the i3 as a tone generator may be successful.
-
- There are other considerations though. In GM, C091 referes to HALL and C093
- referers to CHORUS. My knowledge of GM/GS is thin on the ground, but I
- understand now that there is a SYSEX GM (and GS) ON string that can be
- written into a SMF to set an instrument into these modes. In these cases C
- would always be HALL and D would be CHROUS on the i3. But, when you save a
- SMF out from the i3, and load it back in again, all the correct FC setup is
- remembered. I've not got around to examining files as much as I should
- (e.g. with MIDI2TXT), so maybe someone could tell us if there are special
- SYSEX strings, in a Korg SMF, which could also be inserted into a MIDI file
- at a later date, so that one could play a MIDI file on a PC, which would
- tranmit all the necesary data to the i3, to change the EFFECTS SET-UP.
-
- Either way, you should be able to make a note of the other controller values
- on the i3, such as volume and panpot, and maybe embed these into each track
- using cakewalk.
-
- >3) Are there some other parameters that are not being captured (like
- >expression) that I need to deal with?
-
- As long as all the MIDI FILTERS in GLOBAL mode are all set to ENA (Enable),
- then it would only be a limitation of the recieving intstuement/device. As
- far as I know, all data including controllers are transmitted from the i3,
- but as I said before, you will probably have to embed the appropriate
- controllers into each track before playing.

- I hope someone can shine some more light on this matter of SMF's and SYSEX
- with regards to EFFECTS SET UP.
-
- See ya,
